Service Endpoint GET Examples

Date of effect: July 14, 2014 (tentative)

Example of behavior difference between the old web service query service and the new elevation point query service:

Service Endpoint GET Examples (which are very similar):

NEW: http://ned.usgs.gov/epqs/pqs.php?x=-95&y=38&units=Feet&output=xml

NEW RESULTS:

<USGS_Elevation_Point_Query_Service>
    <Elevation_Query x="-95" y="38">
        <Data_Source>NED 1/3 arc-second</Data_Source>
        <Elevation>1038.508765</Elevation>
         <Units>Feet</Units>
    </Elevation_Query>
</USGS_Elevation_Point_Query_Service>

OLD: http://gisdata.usgs.net/xmlwebservices2/elevation_service.asmx/getElevation?X_Value=-95&Y_Value=38&Elevation_Units=feet&Source_Layer=&elevation_only=false

OLD RESULTS:

<USGS_Elevation_Web_Service_Query>
    <Elevation_Query x="-95" y="38">
        <Data_Source>NED 1/9th arc-second: Bourbon Cherokee Crawford Linn Counties Kansas</Data_Source>
        <Data_ID>Elev_KS_BourbonCherokeeCrawfordLinnCounties</Data_ID>
        <Elevation>1038.74156481325</Elevation>
        <Units>FEET</Units>
    </Elevation_Query>
</USGS_Elevation_Web_Service_Query>

The older service did provide SOAP options as well as a "getAllElevations" method, but these are no longer available at this time.
